Get R Done Friday!

Yay! It is time for Get R Done Friday!

And I have some Get R Done stuff this week.

First a BIG thank you to

First I gotta show you this sunset.

A Get R Done sunset.

I mean, to actually pull over the car and get

a picture of a great sunset instead

of driving on by and not taking a chance

to soak in some beauty.

The pretty part is between

the fog rolling in from the ocean

and the hills.

Here is that card I was working on recently.

I have already given it to the new mom.

Along with this outfit.
This is made of fleece fabric.
Should be cozy warm for the new baby.
But it is a little big yet which is good.
He can grow into it.
This is the back view.
I did not quite have it done when I took it to the baby shower.
I told the new mom I would have to take it back
and finish putting on the second section of snaps.
I did that and returned it to the family.

I don't have pictures of the pants,
but I did finish shortening two pairs of pants for myself
and two for B-Daddy.
I also had to alter a top for me as well and finished that too.

I gave up trying to replace the elastic in the jeans
I was working on.
I may tackle that more later.
Because........

We are leaving on a trip to visit our kids!
The suitcases are ready to go.
We just have get ourselves to the bus terminal
on time
for the ride to the airport.
The alarm clocks are set.
Yes, more than one!
And Helmi is going with us.
She is so excited,
she has parked herself
on the larger suitcase
to make sure I don't forget
to take her along.
Sorry, I didn't get a picture of that.
I gotta get some sleep
cuz we are getting up early.

I have lots going on this week.

Hold on to your hats!

This is my current cross-stitch project

for the Stitch Along Blog

I belong to.

This the picture I posted on that on Sunday.

There are 6 shades of pink going on there

I am so glad I have the grid.

I keep getting lost even with that.

It would be much worse if I didn't have the grid to guide me.

That is 18-count aida I am using!

I posted this before.

I am still working on shortening pants

so I just used the same picture as before.

These are the black ones and I finished those.

But I also shortened a pair of dark blue ones for me too

and finished that last night.

I don't know if I am shrinking or what,

but I bought the same size as always

and now they are too long for me!

Not only that,

my B-Daddy recently bought

new jeans in 30" length.

They are usually a little long for him,

but in jeans he can usually wear them without my shortening them.

He is actually a 28" length.

Well, these new jeans were so long on him he had to

roll them up twice.

So I measured them last night

and they are actually 31 1/2" long!!

No wonder they are tooooo long!

Hmmm...I don't get that.

Pants labeled 30" that are actually 31 1/2 " long.

I shortened one of the pairs of jeans

last night.

They are still a tad too long.

Tonight I will shorten the other pair a little shorter

than the first pair.

And wash the first pair and see if they shrink enough

so that I don't have to redo the hem on them.

Then there is my jeans.

I need to replace the elastic on them.

What a job I have ripping the elastic out on that pair!

Yes, I am still trying to finish that project.

I want to take these pants on the trip.

Actually I want to wear them the

day we leave!!

Hope I can get them done.
Not much time left!

I have been working on baby gifts too.

The card that is not quite finished.

And the gift.

And Helmi has been trying to help me again.

Or NOT!

She is in my way here as I try to find the pattern pieces I need.

Helmi, I think those scissors are a little big for you!

I think you better let me do the cutting.

If you ruin this I will have to get another pattern.

Here Helmi, you can hold the pin cushion for me while

I pin the pattern down.

So that is where I am at now.

Working on this and that

and trying to get ready for our trip

to visit our kiddos.

As my granddaughter says,

"I so cited!!"

The Procrastinator's Party-Did I Finish?

Melissa at The Inspired Room

is our host for the Procrastinator's Party.

I am going to have a reputation for starting

but not finishing my projects for this party.

But I have a very good reason for not finishing this time

and I will share that with you at the end of

this post.

My project was to finish clearing out and cleaning

this closet and get it painted.

This picture shows were I was

at the time I signed up for this party.

I had already done the big job of getting

this closet almost empty

to get ready to paint.

At the time of this picture above,

I had taken down the rod and shelf on the right,

spackled the holes left from the brackets,

and cleaned the walls.

Here is the first coat of primer not quite

finished.

Still needed to do more around the base

and on the left side there.

Another session of painting

had me finished with the first coat

and starting the second coat of

primer.

Ok, this is when I started having problems

The paint fumes started making me

sick to my stomach.

Even though I had a fan going

for circulation and took breaks from being

near the paint I still kept feeling sick.

Then it got to the point even walking

into my sewing room was making me sick.

I managed to complete the second coat of primer.

But I had to keep taking rest breaks again

and stand in the path of the fan

and have the fan blowing on me while I was working.

So my friends this is where I am at now.

I still need to paint the yellow color.

But churning stomach was

telling me to wait awhile on that.

Besides we are trying to get ready for our trip

and I don't want to be feeling sick for that.

Perhaps the paint smell will be

gone by the time we get back

and I can try painting the yellow on at that time.

Once the yellow paint is on,

then I can move on and start creating my

storage for my sewing and crafts

in the closet.

I will be posting pictures of that

as I move along.

With the plans I have,

it will be awesome!

Get R Done Friday! Ants and Other Stuff

Yay! It is Friday.

Friday's make me happy, especially if

I don't have to work on Saturday.

It is time for Get R Done Friday

So what have I gotten done this week?

First I got rid of ants.

We were greeted by ants on Monday morning!

The changing weather sent them in the house.

We had our first rainstorm for the season on Tuesday.

And it was a major one too.

We don't get rain during the summer here.

So B-Daddy put out ant bait here.

And here.

See it is already working!!

But the ants were all over my cereal box.

And inside my cereal too!

Argh!!

Not a good start to a Monday morning.

So I heated up some instant oatmeal in the microwave.

It blew up in there.

Well, not that bad, but it made a mess.

There was still enough in the bowl to eat.

I like to add a touch of sugar to it.

Found ants in my sugar bowl too.

Another argh!!!!

I am happy to say patience pays off.

The ants have quit coming in.

I think they all went into the ant bait trap.

And they also crawled out of my cereal box too.

Yay! No more ants.

For now anyway....

I have also been working on my

Procrastinator's Party

Challenge.

The sewing room closet.

Here it is cleaned and ready to paint.

This is how far I got painting the first coat of primer.

See the bottom is not done yet.

Then last night I sat on the floor and finished the

first coat around the bottom edge.

I tell you,

I had a hard time getting up off the floor

after doing that.

Plus I climbed on my stool

and did more around the top and

kind of started on the second coat.

So that is where I am on that right now.

And....

ta-da!

I have finished the second quilt top.

Notice I said TOP.

The batting, backing and binding are not on those yet.

The 3 B's.

Whatcha Working on Wednesday-Lots going on!

Sometimes the week just goes by too fast for me.

Here we are at Wednesday again.

That means it is time for

Whatcha Working on Wednesday!

I am participating in the

Procastinator's Party.

I have done the first couple of steps

I had listed for me to do.

I took out the rest of the stuff that was still sitting on the shelf.

I took out the long shelf that was along the wall on the right.

I had to ask B-Daddy to help me get the brackets down.

Then I spackled the holes from the brackets

and I cleaned the walls.

The old sheets are on the floor ready for me to paint

the primer on the walls.

I hope to start on that tonight after work.

Oh, and that stool, that is not a reproduction stool.

That is an old one. Used to be my godmother's.

We use it a lot.

Hooray!! I have finished my apple bowl cross stitch!!

Some of you may have seen it on my main blog.

I posted it there too.

It took me from January to October to finish it.

And I used a total of 34 colors in it.

Whew!

You can barely see it,

but this is the start to my new cross-stitch project

for the Stitch Along Blog.

I had bought myself new jeans.

I always get the kind with elastic waist.

I can't stand to wear the other kind.

But after wearing them 3 times with one washing,

I discovered the elastic was giving up already.

I thought, oh, just rip out some of the two bottom

rows and pull out the elastic and insert the new.

Ha!

Turns out the elastic is sewn down as well.

Argh!!

This is turning into a bigger fix it job than I thought!

I am tackling it in bits and pieces hoping

to have it done before our trip.

I want to wear them on our travel days.

As of today,

only 9 days until we go.

I have mentioned fabric shopping with my niece

to get fabric so that I can teach her to sew.

Well, we have been tackling that project too.

First I showed her the ins and outs of reading the pattern

pieces and cutting out the fabric.

Oh, and understanding the layout too!

Here she is pinning the piece for the apron.

After cutting that out, then it was pinning on pieces for

the contrast fabric.
Then it was the brown fabric.
The ties and the bands are made from this fabric.
She did all the cutting.

Then last night we started the sewing process.

First I had to show her how to wind a bobbin and thread
the machine.
We are using my mother's machine here.
This is the machine I learned to sew on, and
I made my wedding dress using this machine.
My old bedroom is now the sewing room.
Here she is doing some pinning.
But first I had her practice sewing on scrap fabric first.

Sewing her first seam on the apron!
I put tape there to help maintain the same seam allowance.

She also learns how to iron her seams.

This is one of the pockets.

She practiced sewing around a curve, but was having a hard

time with that.

So I do the curves for her.

Here I am sewing the curves for her and

she leans in to watch.

I used to do that with my daughter.

She did the straight seams

and I did the curvy seams until she learned how to do that.

We are not finished with this project yet,

but my niece is already looking forward to the

next project we make together.

She is 13 and very eager to sew like me.

makes me proud.

That bandage I have on my right hand?

I burned myself on the light bulb of

the sewing machine.

Not that one, but the one that was my godmother's.

I was trying to see if I could get it to work and in the

process bumped my hand up against the hot light bulb.

It blistered up and at work, the gloves I have to use

pulled away the blister exposing the wound

and it stun too.

So I have to keep it covered now until it heals.

We had lots of rain yesterday.

The first for the season.

Then it is supposed to warm up again.

Into the 80's.

Crazy weather!!
