Can I get a Whoop Whoop? (baby blankets)

 Sarah over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict is our host for this meme each week.

Thank you Sarah for being an awesome host. There are lots of links over there already.

 A nurse at work is expecting her first child, due in September and 

I decided to make this self binding receiving blanket for her. 

She is having a boy so off I go to look for boyish flannel and this is what I 

found at JoAnn's Fabrics.

Cute huh?

I got enough for a second gift for another co-worker also expecting a boy

in November.

 Starting the sewing. First thing you have to do if find the centers of each side.

A pinning I go.

 This is how the self-binding looks after you get it sewn together.

 Then I added the rickrack along the seam

and this time I used a zigzag stitch to sew on the rickrack.

I love how that came out much better.

From now on it will be the zigzag stitch.

 I had enough to make a couple of burp cloths.

One out of each fabric.

 I made it the same on both sides rather than using

each fabric for each side.

Makes for a nice set. 

And the expectant mother loved it.

That made it worth while.

I used the tutorial here to made the blanket.

Time for Whoop Whoop

 Time for Whoop Whoop again.

No finishes for me but I did make progress. 

I had hoped that this would be a February finish,

but I guess it will have to be a March finish.

 Still working on my tote bag. There is a lot involved in this project.

The instructions did not say to add plastic canvas,

but I decided I wanted a firm base so I cut a piece to fit.

And hand sewed it in, so it would stay put. 

I started in the middle of each edge and worked out 

while sewing it and used quilting thread since it is heavier 

than regular thread.

Worked great!

 The outside of one side of the bag.

Don't have the lining in it yet at this point.

Those tabs are for buttoning the pocket closed.

 Here is the other side. I am loving this!

There is enough left of the strips to make this bag two more  times.

 I made covered buttons to match.

This project is included as part of the tote bag project.

A pouch out of vinyl and fabric to keep 

doodads in. 

I will use it for floss, scissors, needles and that kind of thing.

I am going to use my bag to carry cross stitch and other stitchery projects.

It will be a fun bag to carry around!

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop?-One Finish, Progress on Others

I finally finished this apron that was supposed to be a gift 

for Christmas 2010. Bad Me!!

But it is done. Now I need to give it to 

my sister-in-law. That Christmas I gave her the fabric

and then took it back. Just took me a while to get it done.

 I am joining Terry over at Terry's Treasures 

making these house blocks for the Houses Sew-Along 

she has going on her blog.

These are the January blocks.

Just today I was cutting out the pieces for the February blocks.

Hope to be sharing them next week.

 I made progress on these Baby Crawl Mats I am making.

I shared what I had done so far last week.

This week I starting sewing around the fleece shapes.

 And then you have to trim them.

 Unfortunately I made a boo-boo. :(

Forgot to check to make sure wrong sides were facing out 

on this one. Darn! Now I have to rip it out and do it again the 

correct way.  Always something.......

Can I Get A Whoop-Whoop?

 I recently found out about Linky to participate in which is right up my alley!

This one Can I Get A Whoop-Whoop? is hosted by 

Sarah over at Confessions of  a Fabric Addict. 

She has a wonderful blog if you have not visited her yet.

So I have some finished some things and others are still in progress.

I made this self-binding receiving blankets as gifts for a couple of co-workers.
Both of them are having boys.
I used the tutorial HERE and another one that I can't remember at the moment.
The other one suggested using left over fabric to make Burp Bibs.

The reverse side.

I love how they turned out.

So soft and the recipients loved them.

Or so I heard.  

I was not able to attend the shower as I was out of town that day.

Here are the Burp Bibs. One is finished, but the other three are not.

I will need to get them  to my co-workers soon.

And now for another project I am still working on.

These are the handles.

 Continuing on my project I posted about a couple of posts down.

The front and back of my tote bag.

The design is from the book "Fresh Fabric Treats" from the Moda Bake Shop.

I got the fabric from a local quilt shop.

I love the name of this line.

"Happy"

The handle is attached. Actually attached on the other side too.

The side pocket is attached to the side.

And that is as far as I have gotten at the moment.

I was also working on this project which involved a lot of prep work.

This was my original gift idea for the co-workers, but I was running out of time

for the shower so I made the receiving blankets first.

What am I making?

This! A crawl mat. With puffy monsters.

Can you see the names of the puffy monsters in the picture?

So cute.

Anyway, I found this pattern at

They have such cute patterns there.

A busy sewing week.

A Pincushion Parade!

I was visiting Jo over at Jo's Country Junction and

discovered this is a pincushion parade going on!

Whoo! I knew I had to get in on this one.

 The parade is going on over at Love Laugh Quilt.

Beth is the host over there. 

 I will start with my traditional pincushions.

The two smaller ones are showing their age for sure.

 Then one day I started making these.

I somehow found the tutorial HERE.

 Each one is different.

This was the first one I made. But I was not really happy with 

how big the top turned out. 

 It is okay.

So I made the top smaller on the next one. 

Have not decorated the top yet.

 Then on the third try, I made the top even smaller.

More like the ones on the tutorial.

This size I like much better.

Just need to decide what to do on the cushion part.

 In the meantime, here is a fourth one I have started.

 In the tutorial, they use soda bottle caps.

I decided to go with bigger caps.

Easier to hold while working on it for one thing.

These caps are from the the Special K protein drink bottles.

 The bottom.

These are nice for taking in the car to work on.

 This pincushion is from Terry at Terry's Treasures when

she did a Pay It Forward. Soon I need to post about it 

and then do a Pay It Forward myself.

Terry makes lovely stuff. I always enjoy seeing her latest project.

 This yellow one is from my Secret Santa who is from 

New Zealand. Her blog is Michells's Place. 

Michell makes lovely things too!

 I posted about that earlier Here.

So that is my parade of pincushions.

And I have a pattern to make more.

I like that owl, or maybe the bird, 

or maybe the mushroom, or.....

well you get the idea!

Whatcha Working on Wednesday-in Florida

It is time for Whatcha Working on Wednesday.

However, I don't think Leslie is going to do it today.

She has a lot going on at her place.

She writes about it on her post at

My Country Home.

So I hope some of you will find me here anyway.

My Whatcha Working on Wednesday will be

stuff I was doing while in Florida.

The first portion of my trip was in Iowa visiting

my dear daughter.

Then daughter Sara went with us to

Florida to visit our son and his family.

That included hanging out and getting reacquainted with

our dear granddaughter.

We had gone to the pumpkin patch with her.

This is the pumpkin that was picked out.

Helmi has to get in the pictures and show it off.
Now she decided to pose on top of it.
You can see my stitching to the left there.
I had brought that along to work on.
It was decided to have Shaylee paint the pumpkin
rather than carve the pumpkin.
Here she is painting the pumpkin.

not to get in to the paint.
Shaylee is wearing a painting apron.

Then I decide to paint with Shaylee.

Here is the part Shaylee did!

She had fun doing it too.

And here is the part I did.

Whenever we talked about the pumpkin,

Shaylee would say

"Grandma and I did it!"

It was so cool to hear her call me "Grandma".

I must say I am not used to that yet.

This was our first time to see her since she

was 8 months old.

I finished a NOEL block and started the MAGIC block

while we were gone.

Now that we are back home,

I also have other projects in the works.

And this one too!

There are a bunch of other stuff I need to do to.

Like:

Catch up on ironing.

Get back to finishing painting the closet.

Finish other unfinished sewing projects.

And more decluttering which never seems to end.

But first I have to go work.

Perhaps I will have some energy to tackle a few things

after work.

Yesterday I was just too tired to do much.
