Pink Saturday in the Sewing Room

I just realized the title of my post almost sounds like I am playing the game "Clue". I think it was Miss Pink Saturday in the sewing room with the needle. Too bad the Clue game didn't have a sewing room as part of the board design. I loved that game when I was younger. Actually I still enjoy playing that when there are enough other people around to make it fun. But that is not what you came here for....


On to Pink In the Sewing Room...

Again I am using the back side of that pink satin as a backdrop for my pictures. This time I pulled together all the pink thread I have. That stack of four on the right side are all the SAME shade. Why I have four of the same I don't know. Probably because I get thread each time I get fabric just in case I don't have the right color at home. My little black sewing box is not pink but I put it in there to add contrast to all that pink. Same reason why I have the blue thingie in there too. Plus it adds height to the composition of the photo. The crocheted doilies I believe were made by my mother-in-law. They were in her stuff that I got from her. So that is all I have for you today. Lots of PINK thread. For my next pink sewing project I will try not to buy pink thread until I have checked what I have at home first. I promise!

Another Baby!!

Today I found out about another baby on the way for another co-worker. Again! Must be something in the water. This one wants to wait until the baby is born to find out if it is a boy or a girl. I guess I will make a generic romper or something for her. Since it will be a spring/summer baby that should work. Wow! All these babies. Lots of sewing. I need to get on the ball.

I know some of you are waiting to see what I am up to with the Halloween fabric. But no I can't tell you just yet. Soon I hope. I am having fun keeping you wondering. Heehee.

Another thing I got to do today. I got to hold the precious little girl that I have already made whose outfit I did finish on time for the shower. Except for the hat, that is. Oh she is so cute. And so little. I forgot how little babies are when they are first born. Actually, this one is smaller than my babies were at birth. I did take a picture of her. But I am not going to post it since I did not ask if it was okay. I need to respect that of course. But you can believe me that she is one cutey. The hat has been frustrating for me. I accidently scorched the ribbon on that one and no luck finding replacement ribbon. Not even online unless you wanted to buy 20 yards! I am not ready to do that. So I finally got 5/8" instead and gave up on finding the right shade of the 3/8" ribbon. So that meant I needed to replace both sides instead of one. I got the scorched side replaced this morning and starting taking out and replacing the other side. I will probably finish it this evening. And when I do I will take a picture of it and post it here. You will just have to imagine it on a precious baby girl. Actually she won't be able to wear it for while yet, it is too big.

So if I am going to get any sewing done, I better hop off of this blog and get to it. Right? Right.

Uh Oh, Adding More Fabric....

Now I have done it!

Went and bought more fabric when I have a bunch of unfinished projects already. Will I ever learn?

Nope.

I can't help it when an idea hatches and I have to go and get what I need.

Right? Right!

Pink Saturday!

New Picture in Header

You will see that I have added a new picture to my header. Actually a picture since there was not one there before. It is a mini quilt that I made a couple of years ago. I think I also did the tea-dye process with it too, to age it a little. I have a book called "Little Quilts All Through The House" which has the pattern I used to make this little quilt. I really like it. I need to make some more so I can also have little quilts all through the house. Today I hope get a start on my bean bag project for work. At least open the bean bags to empty the bags and then wash them. Also finish the current baby outfits I am working on currently. Plus I have an afternnon event to the women's group at church to attend. My mother and I will be talking about our trip to Salt Lake City when we attended the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in American Trienniel in July. It was an awesome experience for us and for both of us it was our first time. We arranged pictures on poster boards to help show how great it was. So that is my day. I am so looking forward to attending the next one in Spokane, WA in 2011.

Washable Bean Bags

I have made bean bags as part of a group activity for work. We use them for various activities. They are great to have around. Problem is they are hard to wash with the beans in them. So I had been looking for something else to fill them with that would allow us to wash them easily. We need to be able to do that when there are infections or illnesses going around. I finally found this stuff called Poly-pellets. That is what is in the picture. We sent an email to the company we got it from and they said this product should work for what we want to do with it. But I am dismayed that I would probably need to order more in order to fill a bunch of bean bags. We have about 20-30 of them I think. Helps to have plenty so that more than one therapist can be doing activities with the bean bags. I ordered two 2 pound bags. But one 2 pound bag will not get very far. Nevertheless, I will start with what I have and see how far I get. I am thinking of ironing on numbers on the bean bags to help us keep track of which ones have been washed. For example make 10 with the number 1, ten with the number 2 and ten with the number 3. So we can say, okay we are washing all the bags labeled with number 1. I got the poly-pellets from www.roseannsdolls.com. That was about the only source we could find. If anyone knows of another source please let me know.

Pink Saturday in the Sewing Room

Here are some items from my sewing room. Well, the coffee cup is not, but I was using that one the day I took the picture. It has pink on it and it is a sewing theme. I think it was a gift from a Secret Pal one year. I also used the wrong side of left over pink satin type fabric for the background. It cuts down on the shine that way. I used that fabric for an Easter dress for one of my nieces this year. Then there is the pink scissors, pink ribbon, pink variegated crochet cotton, pink old timey looking sewing bin. A cute ornament with pink buttons that was given to me by a former co-worker. And in the front a crochet hook holder that I made. I still have 3 left from when I used to try to sell things I made. I don't do that now. May use them as gifts someday. Also on the left the stripped pink fabric is what I used for the first thing I made for my granddaughter. I made a cute dress and matching bloomers. The hat I am modeling in the side bar went with that outfit. Now I need to go and check out everyone else's Pink Saturday posts. Thanks for visiting!!

Yes I did some more sewing

I ended up staying home yesterday because my husband had a meeting after church, it would have meant my being gone nearly all day. Since church is a 1/2 hour drive from here at least and with the current gas prices, it did not make sense for us to take 2 cars. So stayed home and did more cleaning and ironing and sewing.

The picture above shows where I put my ironing board when I moved it from the family room as I mentioned in the previous post. It sure helped while I was sewing to have it handy for pressing seams and whatnot. Yesterday I also tackled some of the ironing in the basket on the floor. There is still some there to do. Eventually I would like to attach on the wall behind the ironing board a wall mounted ironing board. There is one I found that is nearly a full size board that folds up into a 4" deep space when not in use. I still plan to get that someday. But first we need to finish painting it. You can see where we stopped over the door to the left. It is a Summer Yellow from Kelly Moore paints. I want to get back to that painting task this month, so I can continue to make my sewing area a happy place to be.

This picture is the fabric I am using for the current baby boy gift I am making. I will post a picture when it is finished. I need to finish it this week.

Cleaning My Sewing Room

I got started before it got too hot and I rested with a glass of water as needed, but I did get my sewing room mostly straightened up and cleaned. This morning as I walk through here(office is in sewing room too)it feels so nice. It had gotten quite dusty and the whole house was smelling dusty. The fans are blowing the dust around and you can just tell I really needed to vaccum and dust to make it fresh again. I decided to start with the sewing room. I want it to be comfortable for sewing often or more often like nearly everyday. I did not sew at all yesterday. But maybe I will have a chance before we go to church this morning and later after we get home.

Not only did I clean I did a little rearranging. I had stacks of various things on the floor and we had to walk around them to get through the room. Now we can walk through without tripping over anything. I also took the closet door down to help it feel more open and to use the wall space behind it for my cutting table. I think I will eventually make a curtain to hang over the closet door. But I won't do that until we finish painting this room. Taking down the closet door also will make it easier to tackle painting the next section after we get cooler weather. I also moved the ironing board from the family room into the sewing room. Much easier to use when I am sewing and need to press seams open. Also makes for less clutter in the family room. My bookcase is also straigthened up and now you can easily see the books of my favorite author. That is what the picture above is, books by my favorite author Debbie Macomber. Hers are the some of the few I am keeping. We are trying to narrow down our book collection. Many of the books I have, I read then add it to the bag to donate to the library. But not Debbie Macomber's books. My husband does the same with his books. I am hoping to narrow our collection down enough where we can actually get rid of at least one of our bookcases, maybe two.

While I was doing the cleaning, my husband was going through the paper tiger stacks and deciding what to keep and what to shred and toss out. I kept handing him stuff as I cleared away things. He was watching football, so that was a good thing to do while watching the game. During commercials he would shred and toss or put away. It worked out very well. It got up to 106 yesterday. I read in our local news that it has been a hotter than usual summer this year. I can believe it. On to cooler days. Makes it easier to focus on crafts and sewing when it is not so hot.

Pink Saturday

I posted a Pink Saturday blog on my home blog. It is my first time. Maybe next time I will get on the list of Beverly's Pink Saturday blogs. I was browsing through the Pink Saturday blogs and someone had pictures of tea cups. It donned on me I could do that for a Pink Saturday. I have a collection of tea cups and saucers from my grandmother and my godmother, both of whom have passed on 6 years ago. I know I have some in there with pink flowers and such. So that is my plan for next Saturday. Now I need to get on with my other things for Saturday, like finish a baby boy gift, clean house before it gets too hot, laundry and what ever else I have energy for since it going to be a hot day. I need to make the house feel and smell less dusty. It is driving me crazy. The dust that is! Happy Saturday!!

A Baby has Arrived!

The baby that I made this gift for has arrived. She was born yesterday in the wee hours of the morning. I don't know the details other everything is fine and she was 6 pounds and something. She was also born a week early. Now I need to finish the hat. That is the one where I accidently scorched the ribbon while ironing the hat. Darn! I am having trouble finding the exact replacement ribbon. The exact color in the exact size. I had bought what I thought was the right color but it was a shade darker. Should have had the hat with me. So the store I bought that from is out of that color I guess. Another place I checked is also out of it. Maybe I should go online and order it. Save guess driving all over the place to find it. Who knew finding the right color of ribbon would be so hard? Grr! The outfit is too big for her right now anyway. So I have time to order ribbon online. Yep I have talked myself into it, that is what I am going to do. On to my other sewing projects, the baby boy one. Next week is that recipients last week at work. I want to give it to her before she goes on maternity leave.

Another Baby Gift Added to the List

Yesterday I found out that another co-worker is pregnant with a girl. I already knew she is pregnant, but she recently found out it is a girl. I don't know yet which of my baby patterns I am going to use. I will probably make something different than the two I already made and gave as gifts. This baby is due in January so if I make an outfit that the pattern says is 1-3 months or 6 months I better look for the fabric soon. Otherwise their won't be much of a selection of spring or summery fabrics. All the fall and winter fabrics are there now with more coming probably. I have quite a list in my side bar of projects, I better get busy and sew. After work today should be good. My husband won't be home until after choir practice at church. He will be going there directly from work. I hope I am not too exhausted to sew. I tend to be really tired sometimes.
