REDnesday in the Sewing Room
Time for REDnesday again.
This time I am in my sewing room.
First I would like to thank Sue at
for hosting every week.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On to what is happening in my sewing room.
I have posted previously about teaching my niece to sew.
Well, this past weekend, I was teaching my OTHER niece to sew.
She wanted to spend some one on one time with me as well.
(I have several nieces, but two live close enough for me to spend time with them now and then)
(I have several nieces, but two live close enough for me to spend time with them now and then)
We didn't know what we were going to do at first, but I did have her practice sewing on fabric scraps to get used to the machine. Sewing in straight lines, then sewing curved lines, how to thread the machine, how change thread color(involves the bobbin when changing colors) and how to rewind the bobbin when we run out of bobbin thread.
I think she is doing something with the bobbin is this picture.
Not very many REDS this time, but there is the pin cushion again.
That fleece fabric is what she picked out for her project.
RED is one of the colors included in the design.
I am showing her how tell when the bobbin is full.
Bits and pieces of RED.
There is Helmi watching all that is going on at the machine.
I am wearing PINK, does that count? Maybe?
My niece is 11 1/2 years old. This is her first time to do some sewing.
I started when I was 9 when I was in 4-H.
Working on a pocket.
There is Helmi making sure we keep order in the sewing room.
Putting the pocket on!
Still putting on the pocket.
She reminds me of me when I was young and sewing. :-)
When she wasn't needing me, I worked on this.
RED base on the coffee cup I am using as a pencil holder.
Some RED in the cross stitch. Actually it is a very dark pink.
But I say it counts!
A closer view of my picture.
It is done and my niece models it.
It is a snuggie. But on the pattern it is called a Comfy Blanket.
There is a foot pocket as well.
A great way to keep your feet warm.
Demonstrating how the pocket works.
The foot pocket is at the bottom on the underside so you can slip your feet into them when they are cold.
Ta Da! The comfy blanket has arms/sleeves.
Great for holding a book or a cup of coffee or tea and still stay covered up.
I am definitely going to make one for me!
See all the RED peace symbols on the fabric.
This is the latest update that I put on the Stitch Along Blog I am part of this year.
The very dark pink in the flowers looks RED.
Happy REDnesday everyone!
REDnesday and Whatcha Working on Wednesday
It is time for Whatcha Working on Wednesday!
I don't know if I am going to be able to link up with Leslie at My Country Home. When I go to visit her blog I get a malware warning. I have no idea if her blog is safe to visit or not. Leslie if you are
seeing this post, that is why I am not linked up at the moment.
I am also linking up with Sue at
I do have bits of RED in this post.
I finally got rid of my big sewing table. Actually it is still on it's side in the family room, but it is out of the sewing room. I decided on these black tables from Target for now. Got two of them to start with for the time being. In the process of getting it set up here. I spy some RED in there.
Still in the process of cleaning out the room.
See the RED bag from The Container Store?
I have been making window coverings for a co-worker.
This fabric he chose is a sheet set. Still trying to get organized too.
Believe it or not, that chair is RED. Random RED things.
You will notice the second table is set up with the sewing machine on it.
Working on that window covering.
My co-worker helped me finish painting the sewing room
in exchange for making the window coverings.
I am happy to finally have the sewing room all one color now.
Summer Yellow!
Another view.
Moving the stuff back after the paint dried.
I decided to get a third table.
This is where I hope to work on my scrapbooking.
Helmi hitched a ride when I moved the black case in to the room.
I am hoping this set up will work for me.
It is making the room feel more spacious which was my goal in this project.
See the RED pincushion by the sewing machine.
Helmi in her RED dress being lazy while I do all the work.
Silly Helmi!
Here I have some of my paper storage set up and Helmi
now has her spot to watch me work.
I am not finished with organizing yet,
but I am making progress here.
Next is to get the shelves on the wall that I want from
The Container Store.
In the meantime I am loving the yellow walls.
A dessert I bet Sue at It's A Very Cherry World! would love!
We took my mom out to lunch on Sunday for her 80th birthday.
This was her free dessert.
Mom took a bite, passed it around for everyone to have a bite.
When it got back to her there was still some left for her to enjoy.
She insisted on sharing!
Happy Wednesday everyone!
REDnesday and Whatcha Working on Wednesday
Time for Wednesday stuff. Been awhile since I did a post on this blog.
I am kind of frustrated with it at the moment. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of the blogger template I had switched too. Now that I got rid of that, I have now lost my 3 column format. I can't remember how to do that. Can anyone lead me in the right direction to fix that again? If so, thank you very much.
On my other blog, comments are disappearing. I had seen them because of moderation. But some would not publish and now some have plain disappeared. I don't know if I am missing comments now.
Is there anyone else out there having these kinds of issues?
Today is Whatcha Working on Wednesday with Leslie at My Country Home
and I am going to link in with Sue at
It's A Very Cherry World for REDnesday as well.
I still do some cross stitch here and there.
This is a birthday card I finished for a co-worker in June.
Finally we went back to The Container Store recently.
We order online and then go pick it up.
They put our stuff in these neat RED reusable bags.
You can also see the additional shelves we bought.
I start putting them up. Here the bottom shelf is the first of the three I added.
Then another shelf with stuff on it.
and the last shelf before I started putting stuff on it.
Now I can put magazine holders on the floor under the shelf and they fit perfectly there.
Maximizing my space!
This is the lastest of my other cross stitch project for the stitch along blog.
Member of the RED family there.
This last weekend and on Monday I get this bookcase totally emptied out.
See my bear with the RED feet and paws?
I am noticing other RED's in the picture too.
Can you spot them?
Now it is on it's side. Ready to head out the door and on to my husband's truck.
Yay! The bookcase is gone.
It went to a new home at our church in the pastor's office.
He said he needed more space to corral his books and things.
We took that over there on Monday evening.
Now my niece is planning on coming over this coming weekend and help
me set up the two tables I bought and do some organizing so I can
get back to sewing more easily.
My niece is anxious to sew with me again.
I am anxious to be decluttered in the sewing room.
So....What have you been working on???
Whatcha Working onWednesday!
I can see it has been over a month since I last posted here. I keep hoping I would post something,but sometimes I just find myself too tired to do anything.
My energy level is starting to pick up in the evenings now.
Maybe the longer daylight hours help.
I do have a few things to show you,
but first I want to thank Leslie at My Country Home who continues to do a great job
hosting these meme.
I made this card for a physical therapy assistant student
who was doing her internship with our rehab department.
She was thrilled to get the handmade card.
The above is the picture I shared on the Stitchalong Blog I belong too.
This project is going very slowly. I think the
18-count size is slowing me down. Harder to work on the smaller size.
The other day I did some more work in my sewing closet.
Decided to label my boxes with my labeler.
I think it looks so much better than the green cards I still have on some
of them.
Found 3 more pieces of fabric to iron and add to this stack!
These shoe box size storage boxes I was using in the other closet.
I reorganized those and labeled them as well.
This is another cross stitch project I am working on.
I have made some progress on this one since I last posted a picture of it.
And just this morning before work,
I made this card for a co-worker whose birthday
is today.
Two more co-worker birthdays are
coming up this next week.
Gotta get busy and make two more cards as well
as a 50th anniversary card I want to make.
So, that is where I am for now.
What have you been working on these days?
Whatcha Working on Wednesday
Boy, it has been over a month since I last posted here. Been busy with different things or not as the case may be. Today is the last day of a vacation. My daughter had come to attend a wedding and her boyfriend flew out to be here for the weekend only to attend the wedding with her. It was so good to have her home with us for a little while. It has been nearly 3 years since she was here last. We have seen her since then, but she has not been here. She had a chance to see her grandparents and other relatives and everyone met her boyfriend. We did not scare him off. Lol!
Then at the wedding she had a chance to see college friends since it was her college roommate that got married. We saw her off at the airport very early this morning. Last night we drove down to stay at a hotel near the airport, which saved having to get up super early to get her there for a 6 am flight.
*************
So, on to what I have been up to lately. First I want to thank Leslie at My Country Home
for hosting.
I have done more organizing in the sewing closet. The magazine holders are up there on the shelves now. But I don't think that will be their permanent home. It works for now though. Also I ironed and folded a bunch of Christmas fabrics I had. I was surprised how much I had!!
Here is a close up shot of the fabrics. It is a start on sorting out my fabrics. I still have more to do. As a matter of fact I am prewashing a couple of more pieces I found that were never prewashed. So I will be adding those two to the stack when that is finished.
I did an alteration for a gal at work. Shortened a dress for her and used what I cut off to make a headband tie for her. She was thrilled with that idea. I have to shorten one more for her and will do a headband thing the extra fabric on that one too. Did not take a picture of the first one. Maybe I will with the second one.
I continue to slowly stitch on my piece for the stitch along blog. Here is the latest update I did for that last Sunday.
The backstitching helps the window frame to stand out more. I hope I make more progress this week. So far I have not. Tomorrow I go back to work. I only work for 5 days then we go out of town again. We are the delegates from our church to a convention. People enjoyed our report from the one last year it was voted for us to go again. We enjoy it, so everyone said to send us.
This year it will be in Reno. Last year it was in Fresno.
Happy Wednesday to everyone!
